REVIEWS.

“Pulses are racing and bodies heaving in organic, earthy waves– it's an interesting amalgam of styles, from some excellent dancers.”

THE EVENING STANDARD

"EDIFICE Dance Theatre is still not yet five years’ old and Salomé is the company’s fourth production. It is raw, punchy and intimate dance theatre that was absorbing, stimulating and entertaining. The company certainly seems to be on an upward curve and I am keen to see what more Waghorn and De Amicis can bring to their repertoire both on stage and film."

DANCING TABS, GRAHAM WATTS

“Blending choreographic conventions to shocking effect, the company’s co-directors Carmine De Amicis and Harriet Waghorn, have filtered the sharp extravagance of ‘Strictly Come Dancing’ ballroom styles through the fluidity of contemporary dance.”

DANCING TIMES, BARBARA NEWMAN

“I was mesmerised by the work. I was pleased to see new company.”

BRITISH COUNCIL,CAROLE MCFADDEN

“Inventive and collaborative with incredible talent"

Harriet Waghorn is a London-based interdisciplinary artist, director, choreographer, dancer and writer whose work investigates human chemistry, intimacy, story, and context. Her practice bridges live performance, film, digital art, critical thinking and emerging digital platforms, creating hybrid forms of storytelling through her pioneering movement language that fuses contemporary dance and ballroom with research-driven, raw storytelling.

Waghorn has performed and presented work at leading art and performance spaces including Tate Modern, Serpentine Gallery, Zaha Hadid Roca Gallery, the Royal Opera House, Sadler’s Wells, and the Young Vic. Her projects have also been showcased internationally through collaborations with Netflix, BFI, Sky Arts, Vice, Nowness, and Opera North, and her viral dance films Abaddon and Edifice have collectively amassed over 12 million views. She has worked with artists including Michaela Cole, Raff Law, and Sadie Frost, and brands including Adidas and The Savoy, London.

Currently, Waghorn is exploring the intersection of dance, art, and digital platforms, translating movement and story into interactive installations and digital artworks. Taking her in 2025 to Marfa Texas in collaboration with Glitch Gallery. Her work is deeply rooted in human connection, intimacy, and touch, examining the necessity of physical chemistry and presence in an increasingly technological world. Rather than avoiding the tension between flesh, mind, and digital evolution, she investigates alternatives to binary conceptions of human beings versus technology, drawing on practices including Spiritual Intimacy and Buddhist philosophy to inform her work.

Trained in Art History and active in dance for over 15 years, Waghorn continues to push the boundaries of movement, narrative, and emerging digital practices, positioning herself at the forefront of cross-disciplinary innovation in contemporary performance and art.

In recognition of her contributions to dance, Waghorn was nominated for the Women in Dance Leadership Award (2022) and awarded one of three prestigious places with Akram Khan Company for Artistic Development in choreography (2021).

Carmine De Amicis is a stage director working internationally across opera, physical theatre and film. Rooted in his background in movement, his work is driven by a distinct physical dramaturgy and sensitivity to space, a belief that bodies, space and music can articulate meaning beyond realism. He is co-Artistic Director of EDIFICE, supported by Arts Council England, creating live, immersive and site-responsive performances for stage and screen.

In the 2025/26 season, Carmine opened the season at Teatro Nacional de São Carlos directing Suor Angelica / Gianni Schicchi. His short film Paolo e Francesca won an award at the 2025 Global Short Film Awards in Cannes. In addition, his short film Glauben received the Honorary Mention for Artistic Achievement at the New Renaissance Film Festival in London. A finalist for the Off West End Awards with Bluebeard’s Castle, he continues to develop hybrid, interdisciplinary works that expand the expressive possibilities of opera and movement-based theatre.

Carmine frequently stages performances in unconventional environments: churches, galleries, historic sites and industrial spaces, allowing architecture to shape dramaturgy and meaning.

He trained as an opera director, translator and choreographer, and has served as Associate Lecturer at the University of Chichester.

He has created over 40 productions for institutions including the Royal Opera House, Welsh National Opera, Garsington Opera, English Touring Opera, Teatro Massimo Palermo, Fondazione Teatro Carlo Felice, Teatro Regio Torino, Nederlandse Reisopera, Opéra National du Rhin, Opéra Royal de Wallonie, Pfalztheater Kaiserslautern, Opéra de Lausanne, Opéra Saint-Étienne, Fondazione Teatro Donizetti, Opéra Dijon, Longborough Festival, Rossini Opera Festival, Festival Internazionale di Musica Antica Erice, Grange Park, Dubai Opera, Royal Opera House Muscat, Teatro Nacional de São Carlos, Bunka Kaikan Tokyo, Göttingen Handel Festival, Hampstead Garden Opera and Gothic Opera.
