Research and development with Akram Khan Company and Sky Arts
Through Director Harriet Waghorn, The work of EDIFICE has been awarded mentorship with Akram Khan in association with Sky Arts.
In his role as Sky Arts Ambassador, Akram Khan together with the Company have developed an Artist-development programme to provide support and mentoring to three UK-based dance artists. This 6-month programme will give them the rare opportunity to investigate stories and themes from their own work as part of a research & development (R&D) phase, before delving into their creative process. We measure the value of R&D and we are aware that allocating resource for this is a rarity in the performing arts world, especially in these current times.

“The AKC Artist-Development programme is an amazing and rare opportunity to have a period of growth over six months that considers your research and rigour into your actual dance practice with mentors, such as Akram Khan and his team. To be able to focus on studio research is an invaluable asset within an industry that produces work fast, within a project based funding infrastructure.
After a year of reflection and growth through 2020 it was prevalent to both Carmine and I that we wanted to support the artistic risk and growth our company would take over the next 5 years with strong foundations in deep, grounded research with latin practitioner Nancy Berti. We want our work to speak from these roots and the chance to work with Akram and his team has given me invaluable time and focus to listen, question and re-evalute.
Carmine and myself will always remain curious, we are forever students and want to share all we find out along our paths with each other and anyone who wants to listen. We look forward to sharing our research with you"
